Yet another timely article. Last night in the dojo we were attempting a long newaza drill suggested by a US based Sensei. This lead to a discussion about drills needing to be a stepping stone to subconscious pragmatic application in response to an act of aggression, rather than a test if memory against a choreographed set of techniques. When it comes to the length of drills, less is more and you need to mix things up and vary the level of resistance if you are chasing functionality. Great work Adam Shihan.
